Ms. Andrews was born in Hilo, Hawai‘i. She received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Hawai‘i in 1980, and a Juris Doctor degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law in 1983, where she was an editor for the University of Hawai‘i Law Review. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, including defense of officers and directors, errors and omissions and professional liability defense.
Ms. Andrews has practiced litigation and advocacy in Hawai’i for over 29 years. She has served as lead counsel in cases before the United States District Court for the District of Hawai‘i and in all of Hawai'i’s four state circuit courts, as well as in numerous mediations and arbitrations. She has been successful in obtaining rulings in favor of her clients in appeals before both the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Hawai‘i Appellate Courts, and has obtained successful resolution of cases based on early mediation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Some of her more recent cases involve representation of a surplus line insurance brokerage firm in connection with the alleged failure to procure the appropriate insurance for a tour operator; representation of an international airline consulting firm alleged to have breached its duties to a client by providing confidential information to a new airline entering the Hawai‘i market; representation of a national shipping company in connection with a wrongful termination suit involving employee interference with a multi-million dollar shipping contract; and representation of an escrow company alleged to have failed to obtain title insurance in favor of a lending institution in connection with several multi-million dollar commercial loans. Lissa Andrews has been recognized for her work in general litigation by Super Lawyers (2012-2017), a nationally known attorney rating and directory service.
