Case Lombardi is the proud sponsor of the William S. Richardson School of Law’s Jurist-In-Residence and the Bright International Jurist-In-Residence Programs. The Jurist-In-Residence Programs bring distinguished United States Supreme Court Justices and International Jurists to the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai´i at Manoa to meet with students, faculty, the judiciary and the legal community.
Initiated in 1987, the Jurist-in-Residence Programs enable local students and the community to exchange ideas with the world's leading jurists. Every two years, the Jurist–In-Residence Program has welcomed a United States Supreme Court Justice and every other year, an International Jurist. The Justices engage in a series of conversations, lectures, and symposiums in Hawai´i during the week-long event.
Past Bright International Jurist-In-Residence participants include: His Excellency Hisashi Owada, President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Hague (2010), Canada Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella (2014), Justice Antonio Herman Benjamin of the National High Court of Brazil (2016) and Justice Joseph Williams, New Zealand Court of Appeal (2018), and Justice Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, president of the East African Court of Justice (2019).
United States Supreme Court Associate Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Stephen G. Breyer, Samuel A. Alito, Jr. and Sonia Sotomayor have participated in the program.
